It’s hard to believe that four people with such a passion about heavy metal and the common dream of becoming musicians could come from such small Texas towns. But even though they come from small towns, the four members of Insurgence have big dreams of becoming the next big thing in metal.
Insurgence began in the spring of 2006 after Ryan Jackson met Travis Winsett backstage at their high school talent show. They found that they both had almost the exact same taste in music and were two of the best guitar players in the area. It was apparent that they were destined to start a band, and in the following summer, they found themselves playing guitar religiously in Travis’s garage and growing together as musicians.
It would be almost a year before Travis and Ryan would find a drummer that matched their taste in music as well as their talent level. But while browsing through the musician classifieds on Myspace, Travis saw an ad by a drummer looking to join a metal band in the Stephenville area. The drummer, Colton Mathis, proved to be just what they had been looking for, and the following months would be spent practicing, writing, and finding the Insurgence sound.
With a batch of original songs, Insurgence decided that they were finally ready to record their first demo CD at Indian Trails Recording Studio, just north of Denton, Texas. No expense was spared as they spent a week tracking the six songs that they would unleash onto the world. After hearing the final mixed versions of the songs, it had appeared that all the hard work they had put into the band had finally paid off, as even they were surprised at how amazing the songs sounded. The music incorporated every style of metal that they had grown up with and loved so much. It had it all; powerful intros, thrashy verses, catchy choruses, and lengthy 80's style guitar solos. They knew that they had what it took to take the metal world by storm; now they just had to get everyone to listen to it.
Soon after the release of The Awakening EP, Charles Smith took over the bass duties. Now with a full line up, Insurgence is practicing as much as humanly possible, getting ready to play shows and make their mark on the industry, one fan at a time.
